Milpitas, CA , USA -- Strategic Focus, Inc. a market research and software evaluation firm based in Milpitas, California, said today that the US market for Web application development tools in 1998 will grow by 33.2% over 1997 . The European market is forecasted to grow by 43.6% during the same period. These results are the outcome of a recently published, demand based, two volume study called "TRENDS IN WEB & JAVA APPLICATION DEVELOPMENT MARKETS" in USA and Europe. Published in June 1998, the study is based on a survey of Application Developers and MIS managers. The US study is based on a mail survey and has a base of 200 respondents. The European study is based on a phone interviews in three countries UK, Germany and France and has a base of 450 respondents.

The expenditure growth rates are based on what the respondents said they plan to spend on Web application development tools for building business applications in 1998 relative to what they spent in 1997.

"The growth rates for web application development tool expenditures in Europe are higher than in the US; but the per site expenditure is lower" said Mr. Jay Prakash, President and Principal Consultant of Strategic Focus." Also, Europe is not one homogeneous union; growth rates and technology penetration varied significantly between the countries surveyed" he added.
